When preparing for my trip to Mexico, I spent many hours scouring Airbnb-- rounding up a list of affordable Airbnbs in Tulum to choose from, that offered both luxury and aesthetics, without breaking the bank. Tourism in Tulum has definitely gone up in price in recent years, so booking a budget-friendly place to stay can really help you save on the rest of your trip.
Personally, I enjoyed staying in downtown Tulum so that's where most of these are located-- the area has great local food, shopping, and is close to a lot of the area's famous Cenotes. I'd recommend a car rental if you stay in downtown-- the beach is about a 15-20 minute drive!

I booked this Airbnb for 4 nights and can personally vouch for this host-- it was extremely clean and comfortable (beds were great, the AC was very strong on each room), the rooftop was stunning and really peaceful to use after a long day-- and the location is prime for downtown Tulum (about a 2-minute drive, or bikeable). And lastly, walking distance to delicious food (try the pizza place down the street).
